Turkey
Turkey is a country straddling eastern Europe and western Asia with cultural connections to ancient Greek, Roman, Persian, Byzantine and Ottoman empires. Cosmopolitan Istanbul, on the Bosphorus Strait, is home to the iconic Hagia Sophia, with its soaring dome and Christian mosaics, the massive 17th-century Blue Mosque and the circa-1460 Topkapı Palace, former home of sultans. Ankara is Turkey’s modern capital.
What To Do In Turkey ?
From the iconic Byzantine era Dome of Aya Sofya to the ancient seaside city of Ephesus, Turkey is no stranger to world famous monuments and ruins. Having seen several empires over its time including the Ottomans, Romans and Byzantines, Turkey proudly wears the marks of all these great empires. For visitors, it is easily one of the most historical countries to visit.
You can also find activities for all temperaments. On the side of water activities, there is the common like diving, wind surfing to the rare like kayaking at the Kekova sunken ruins to canyoning in a mountain gorge. You could also take to the air with exhilarating paragliding rides or a more comparatively laidback hot air balloon ride.
Oh, and Turkey’s cuisine deserves a mention. Known to have influenced dishes from across the world, sampling Turkey’s cuisine is one of the highlights of the country. Whether it is a shawarma and a kebab at a roadside joint or meze at Mediterranean harbor, you will be taken on a delightful journey to the heart of Turkish culture.
